How to Create a Gmail Account and Generate an App Password
This step-by-step guide will help users create a Gmail account and enable an App Password, which is required to connect Gmail with third-party services (like our website or tools).
Part 1: Create a Gmail Account
- Visit Gmail Sign Up
- Fill in Your Information
- First & Last Name
- Desired Email Address
- Password (make it strong!)
Click Next
- Add Recovery Options
- Add a phone number and recovery email (optional but recommended)
- Enter your birthdate and gender
Click Next
- Agree to Google's Terms
Read through the Privacy and Terms
Click "I agree"
✅ You're done! You now have a Gmail account.
Part 2: Enable 2-Step Verification
App passwords only work if 2-Step Verification is turned on.
- Go to Your Google Account Settings
- Scroll to "Signing in to Google"
Click "2-Step Verification"
Click Get Started
- Re-enter your password
- Add your phone number and follow the on-screen steps to verify it
- Complete the setup
Choose how to receive codes (Text/Call)
Test it and finish setup
✅ 2-Step Verification is now enabled.
Part 3: Generate an App Password
- Return to Security Settings
- Find "App Passwords" under "Signing in to Google"
If you don't see it, make sure 2-Step Verification is turned on
- Generate an App Password
Click App Passwords
Re-enter your Google account password
Under "Select app", choose Other (Custom name) and type something like MyWebsite Email
Click Generate
- Copy Your App Password
A 16-character password will appear
Copy it – you'll use this instead of your Gmail password when setting up email in apps or services
⚠️ You won't see this password again. Save it somewhere safe if needed.
✅ Done! Use This App Password in Our Website
When asked to enter your Gmail credentials on our site:
- Email: Your full Gmail address
- Password: Use the App Password (NOT your Gmail login password)
